Wrestlers Ranked 16th and Trio Ranked in Top-10

NWCA National Poll

BEREA, Ohio --
  The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team is ranked 16th in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Division III poll (released on December 8, 2015) and three of its wrestlers are ranked in the Top-10 of their respective weight classes.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3 overall) are ranked 16th and are the highest Ohio Athletic Conference team to be ranked by the NWCA.  BW next competes this Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Waynesburg (Pa.) University Quad.

BW is led by the senior trio of 133-pounder and two-time Division III All-American Jesse Gunter (Akron/ Coventry), 165-pounder and 2014 Div. III national qualifier David Shapiro (Beachwood) and 174-pounder and Div. III All-American Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep).

Gunter moved from 125 pounds to 133 pounds this season and may go back to 125 before the season is complete.  The two-time All-American is ranked fourth at 133 pounds and is a perfect 7-0 this season. He has fashioned a 93-12 career mark with 27 falls (21 pins and six technical falls).

Shapiro is ranked sixth at 165 pounds and is 6-1 this season and 101-36 with 29 total falls in his career.  He set a single-season school-record with 40 victories as a sophomore when he qualified for the Div. III national tourney.

Chase is ranked seventh at 174 pounds. He has a 6-1 mark so far this season and joins Shapiro with more than 100 wins in his career. He is 102-31 overall with 20 total falls.  He earned Div. III All-America honors at the 2015 national tourney.

Following its trip to Waynesburg, the BW grapplers are off until Dec. 18 when they hop on a jet plane and head west to compete at the 2015 Desert Duals in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 21.
