BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION: Sam Groff played his second season of football and participated in his first season of wrestling at Baldwin Wallace University in 2015-2016. He earned a varsity letter in football last fall and hopes to earn his first varsity letter in wrestling.
GENERAL FOOTBALL INFORMATION: As a freshman in 2013-2014, Sam played in his first season of football and received a certificate of participation. He split time between the varsity and junior varsity teams at linebacker. BW finished 6-4 overall.
Sam did not play football in 2014-2015.
As a sophomore in 2015-2016, Sam played his second season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He started at outside linebacker and led the varsity with 76 total tackles, including 32 solo stops, two quarterback sacks (for minus two yards), five tackles for loss (of seven yards), two pass breakups and one recovered fumble. He helped BW to a 7-3 overall record.
GENERAL WRESTLING INFORMATION: As a freshman in 2013-2014 and sophomore in 2014-2015, Sam did not wrestle.
As a red-shirt sophomore in 2015-2016, Sam competed in his first season of wrestling and hopes to earn his first varsity letter. He battled for mat time at 197 pounds. Sam compiled an 11-4 record with one pin and one technical fall. He also had 16 takedowns, 13 escapes, four reversals and 18 total near falls. BW reset the school-record for single-season wins with 18, compile an 18-8 overall and perfect 5-0 OAC record and an OAC title and place second at the 2016 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Sam grew up in Waynesville, Ohio and graduated from Sandy Valley High School.
Sam played football, wrestled and ran track all four years. He earned four varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track.
Sam was a two-time All-Stark County pick in football, two-time All-State (OHSAA State Tournament placer) in wrestling, and an OHSAA Regional qualifier for in the shot put and discus in track.
FAMILY CONNECTION: Sam's father, John Groff, was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference player for the Yellow Jackets.
