BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION: Joey Schmidt had an outstanding four-year wrestling career at Baldwin Wallace University. The four-year starter and All-Ohio Athletic Conference 149-pounder also was a NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Scholar All-American. He also compiled a 86-57 career record to tie for 14th on the all-time BW win list.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS:  Joey excelled in the classroom and compiled a 3.421 grade point average.

NWCA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN:  As a senior in 2015-2016, Joey was named as a NWCA Scholar All-American.

ALL-OAC HONORS:  As a senior in 2015-2016, Joey earned second-team All-OAC honors.

OAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK HONORS:  As a sophomore in 2013-2014, Joey was named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week on December 16, 2013.

GENERAL WRESTLING INFORMATION:  Joey Schmidt had an outstanding four-year career for the Yellow Jackets and helped to lead BW to the 2016 OAC title and an all-time-best second place finish at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament. During his final three seasons in the BRown & Gold, BW compiled a 43-16 record in dual matches, including a perfect 5-0 OAC Mark in 2016.

Individually, Joey compiled an 87-56 career record with a .608 winning percentage. He ranks 14th on the school's all-time victory list.

As a freshman in 2012-2013, Joey competed in his first season of wrestling and earned his first varsity letter. He was the starting 149-pounder for most of the season and compiled a 17-15 record with six pins. He also had 29 takedowns, 17 escapes, one reversal and 12 total near falls. BW finished 4-4 overall in dual matches. 

As a sophomore in 2013-2014, Joey competed in his second season of wrestling and earned his second letter. He was the starting 149-pounder. Joey was named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week on December 16, 2013. He had a 20-10 record with seven pins and one technical fall despite missing part of the season due to an injury. Joey had 28 takedowns, 18 escapes and 11 total near falls. BW finished 8-3 in dual matches and 22nd at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

As a junior in 2014-2015, Joey competed in his third season of wrestling and earned his third letter. He had an overall record of 27-22 with six pins, three tech falls, 51 takedowns, 36  escapes, three reversals and 22 total near falls. BW set a single-season school-record with 17 wins, finished 17-6 overall and 4-1 in OAC dual matches, won the 29th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament, placed sixth at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional and 20th at the 2015 NCAA Div. III National

As a senior in 2015-2016, Joey competed in his fourth season of wrestling and earned his fourth letter. He started at 149 pounds and compiled a 23-9 record, including one pin and four technical falls. He also had 54 takedowns, 25 escapes, eight reversals and 54 total near falls. Joey earned second-team All-OAC honors. BW compiled a school-record 18 victories with an 18-8 overall record, won the OAC title with a perfect 5-0 record and placed an all-time best second at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament. BW also was 31st of 53 teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Joey Schmidt grew up in Hinckley, Ohio and graduated from Brunswick High School in the spring of 2012. 

Joey wrestled for four years and earned four letters, lettered twice in soccer and played football.

In wrestling, Joey placed third at the Northeast Ohio Conference Tournament and was an OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) District qualifier.

Academically, Joe was a fine student who carried a 3.5 grade point average.
