Women's Golf Competes on First Day at the O'Brien National Invitational

First Day Results(pdf.)

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA --
The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team opened its 2011 fall season by participating today (Sunday, September 11) at the St. Mary's College O'Brien National Invitational at Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The second and final round will be played tomorrow with players teeing off at 8:00 a.m.

With nine of the top-11 ranked teams in NCAA Division III golf in attendance, the young Yellow Jackets are getting a taste of what it is like to play against the best competition available.  A year ago, B-W shocked the OAC when it won the league championship tournament with three freshmen and two sophomores. The team went on to finish 15th at the Division III National Tournament in Florida.  And, even with all five starters back this fall, B-W is unranked entering this event.

On the first day on the par-72 and 5,824-yard Warren G.C. layout, the Yellow Jackets carded a 347-stroke team total. Junior 2-time All-OAC player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) led the way with an 84. She was followed by sophomore All-OAC player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) with an 86, sophomore Rebecca Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) with an 87, junior All-OAC player Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) with a 90 and sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) with a 93.  Also playing as an individual was sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) and she carded a 92.

Following tomorrow's second round, the Yellow Jackets will return to Berea and next play on Saturday, Sept. 17 at The College of Wooster Invitational Tournament at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio.
