SOUTH BEND, INDIANA --  The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team opened its 2011 fall season by placing 10th today (Monday, September 12) at the St. Mary's College O'Brien National Invitational Tournament at Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. This tournament is the most prestigious in small college golf.

With nine of the top-11 ranked teams in NCAA Division III golf in attendance, the young Yellow Jackets got a taste of what it is like to play against the best competition available.  A year ago, B-W shocked the OAC and many Division III women's golf observers when it won the league championship tournament with three freshmen and two sophomores. The team went on to finish 15th at the Division III National Tournament in Florida.  And, even with all five starters back this fall, B-W was unranked entering this event.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets carded rounds of 347 and 345 for a 692-stroke total.  No.1-ranked Methodist won the tourney with a 630-stroke total.

Overall, sophomore player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) led the way by shooting rounds of 86 and 85 for a 171-stroke total on the par-72 and 5,824-yard Warren G.C. layout. She was followed by junior player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) who fired a team-leading round of 84 on the first day and an 88 today for a 172 total, sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) had rounds of 87 and 89 for a 176 total, junior Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph) fired rounds of 90 and 87 for a 177 total and sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) had rounds of 93 and a second day team-low-tying 85 for a 178 total.  Also,  playing as an individual was sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) and she carded rounds of 92 and 91 for a 183 total.

B-W next plays on Saturday, Sept. 17 at The College of Wooster Invitational Tournament at the Wooster Country Club. Tee times are to be announced.
