Yellow Jacket Women Golfers in 16th Place After Third Round of NCAA Championships

ANGOLA, INDIANA--  The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands in 16th place after the third day of the four-day and 72-hole 2012 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament on the Zollner Golf Course on the campus of Trine University.  The final day is tomorrow, Friday, May 11.
 
Today, the Yellow Jackets totaled 333 strokes on the par-72 and 5,963-yard Zollner G.C. layout. That score combined with a 330-stroke first round and a 331-stroke second round gives B-W 994 total strokes.

After day three, 14-time defending champion Methodist (N.C.) University remains the overall leader after shooting a 312 today to bring their total stroke count to 932.   Rounding out the top five going into the final day is: DePauw University just two strokes back of the leaders at 934, Williams College at 939, Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a total of 942, and Mary Hardin-Baylor with 949 total strokes. 

The team was led today by junior Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy)with a career-low-tying round of 79. The round included two birdies. Hamilton, who was nominated for an NCAA Championships "Elite 89" award at the tournament banquet for her excellence on campus and in the classroom with a 3.94 grade point average in English and philosophy, had rounds of 85 and 83 for a three-day total of 247 strokes.

She was followed today by sophomores Rebecca Jones (Hiliard/ Darby) and Emilee Woolf (Ravenna)with 83s as each player had one birdie. In addition, junior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence)had an 88 and sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) had a 91. Jones had rounds of 85 and 80 on the first two days and has 248 total strokes to rank second on the team. Kapusta is next with rounds of 80 and 83 on the first two days for a 251-stroke total. Cunningham is next with rounds of 80 and 85 on the first two days for a 256-stroke total. Woolf had rounds of 87 and 91 on the first two days and has a 261-stroke total.

The past two years, the B-W women's golf program has been one of the best in the region. The Yellow Jackets have won nine tournament titles, including back-to-back OAC crowns, and have a 140-44-1 record.  All five Yellow Jacket starters have each earned All-OAC accolades the past two years.
