ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team finished third today (Sunday, March 25, 2012) on the final day of the University of Mount Union Spring Invitational at the Tannenhauf Golf Course. This was B-W's first spring tourney up north.
B-W had 676 total strokes on the par-72 and 6,189-yard Tannenhauf G.C. layout, including 334 in today's final round, to place third. The Yellow Jackets had 342 strokes on the first day of the tournament.
For the Yellow Jacket five-player starting lineup, sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) led the way with a two day total of 165, with a first round of 82 and a second round of 83. This places Cunningham tied for fifth individually. Junior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) finished with two day totals of 170, sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hillard/ Darby) and junior Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) both fired 173.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) carded rounds of 81 and 77 today for a 158-stroke total to place second individually. Her round of 77 tied her career best for a round.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31 when they travel to Lockbourne, Ohio to compete at the Capital University Purple & White Invitational Tournament at the Foxfire Golf Club.
A year ago, the B-W women's golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
