Cunningham Wins Medalist as Yellow Jackets Take Team Title

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team captured the 2011 of the Heidelberg University Fall Invitational today (Sunday, September 25) at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club. Highlighting the event individually were sophomore All-OAC student-athletes Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) and Emilee Woolf (Ravenna), who each carded a 163-stroke total and had to go to a playoff where Cunningham earned medalist honors.

B-W shot its best round of the fall on the first day (Saturday, Sept. 24) when it totalled 336 strokes on the par-72 and 6,685-yard Mohawk C.C. layout. The Yellow Jackets came back and shot a tourney-best 343 on the second day to total 670 strokes to finish 75 strokes ahead of second place Ohio Wesleyan University.


Cunningham carded rounds of 80 and 83 for a 163-stroke total. Her first day 80 was a tourney-best, including a one-under-par-35 on the front nine holes. This was her first career medalist honor. Woolf had rounds of 82 and 81 to total 163 strokes with her 81 on the second day being the tournament's best.  Woolf has earned tourney medalist honors before as she accomplished that feat last fall at the Grove City of Pennsylvania Invitational Tournament.


In addition to the two medalist, junior Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) had rounds of 90 and 86 for a 176-stroke total to tie for seventh, sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) had rounds of 85 and 94 for a 179-stroke total to place ninth, and junior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) had rounds of 89 and 93 for a 182-stroke total to place 10th.


Playing as individuals were sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green), who had rounds of 97 and 91 for a 186-stroke total to place 13th, and junior Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Christian Academy), who had rounds of 122 and 102 for a 224-stroke total to place 33rd.  There were nine teams and 43 total golfers.


The Yellow Jackets are next in action on Sunday and Monday, October 2-3 when they travel to Meadville, pennyslvania to take part in the Allegheny College Fall Invitational at the Country Club of Meadville. B-W will conclue the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday and Sunday October 8-9 when it travels to Springfield to compete in the Wittenberg University Clash at the Clouse at the Windky Knoll Golf Course.
