Women Golfers Fourth After First Day of Capital Tournament

-- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands in fourth place today (Friday, March 30, 2012) after the first day of the Capital University Purple & White Invitational Tournament at the Foxfire Players Club.  The final day of competition is tomorrow and begins with a 9:00 a.m. start.


B-W had 353 total strokes after day one of the tournament.  Bethel College (Ind.) leads with a total of 326 strokes and Mount Union trails in second place with 339 strokes, and Otterbein is in third place with 347 strokes on the par-72, 6,705-yard Players Club layout.

In team play, sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/Christian) and Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) lead the way with a round of 85. This places Cunningham and Woolf tied for sixth with three other golfers.  Sophomore Sarah Allred (Hillard/Darby) followed Cunningham and Woolf's day with a 91.  Junior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/Darby) each finished with scores of 93, and 92 respectively.

Individually, Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) carded a 93, placing her tied for 34th with Kapusta and one other golfer.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15 when they travel to Ostrander, Ohio to compete at the Laura Bump Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

A year ago, the B-W women's golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
