OSTRANDER, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands third after the first day (Saturday, April 14, 2012) of competition at the Ohio Wesleyan University Laura Bump Invitational Tournament at the Mill Creek Golf Course.  The second and final day of competition is tomorrow.

The Yellow Jackets totalled 338 strokes on the par-72 and 6,005-yard Mill Creek G.C. layout.  Allegheny College leads after the first day with 330 strokes.  Otterbein University is in a close second with a total of 336 strokes.

In team play (each team has five golfers and the top four scores count toward the team total), junior Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) led the way with a first round score of 83.  Hamilton was followed by sophomore Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) who carded an 84.  Junior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) is not far behind after shooting an 85.  After Kapusta, sophomore Miranda Cunningham fired an 86.  To end team play for the day, sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/Darby) carded a 97.

Individually, sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/Green) shot a 92 for the day.

Following tomorrow's final round, the Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Friday, April 20 when they travel to Angola, Indiana to compete at the Trine University Spring Invitational at the Zollner Golf Course.  The final regular season event is the 2012 OAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Capital University, on April 28-29 at the Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio.

A year ago, the B-W women's golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
