ALLIANCE, OHIO --
The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands in third place today (Saturday, March 24, 2012) after the first day of the University of Mount Union Spring Invitational Tournament at the Tannenhauf Golf Course.  The final day of competition is tomorrow and begins with a 10:00 a.m. "shotgun" start.

B-W had 342 total strokes after day one of the tournament.  University of Mount Union leads with a total of 326 strokes and Otterbein trails in second place with 339 strokes on the par-72, 6,189-yard Tannenhauf layout.

In team play, sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/Christian) lead the way with a round of 82, with low rounds of 41 on both the front and back nines. This places Cunningham sixth individually.  Sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hillard/Darby) followed Cunningham's day with an 86, with a low round of 42 on the back nine.  Both juniors Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) both fired an 87.  Rounding out team play, sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/Green) carded an 88.

Individually, sophomore Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) carded an 81, placing her fourth individually.  Woolf carded an even-par 36 on the front nine, which was the lowest nine-hole total of the day respectively.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31 when they travel to Lockbourne, Ohio to compete at the Capital University Purple & White Invitational Tournament at the Foxfire Golf Club.

A year ago, the B-W women's golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
