Women's Golf Team Shoots 331 on Second Day of NCAA Championships

ANGOLA, INDIANA-- The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands in 16th place of 19 teams after the second round (Tuesday, May 8) of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships at the at the Zollner Golf Course on the campus of Trine University. This was the second of four days of competition in the 72-hole event.

The 331 team total is one stroke higher than yesterday's first round of 330 and gave the Yellow Jackets a 661-stroke total at the halfway point. B-W is 10 shots back of 13th place and 13 strokes shy of 12th. The Yellow Jacket squad consists of three sophomores and two juniors.

After two rounds, 14-time defending champion Methodist (N.C.) University is the overall leader with a total of 620, as they recorded 310 strokes today. DePauw (Ind.) University is second with a stroke total of 621. Wisconsin-Eau Claire is third with a total of 622-strokes. Williams (Mass.) College stands fourth with a total of 630-strokes,  and the University of Mary Harden-Baylor (Tx.) has a two-round total of 632 to round out the top five.

The team was led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) with an 80 on the par-72 and 5,990-yard Zollner G.C. layout which is five strokes better then she her 85-stroke total from round one. She had a team-high two birdies today and has a 165-stroke total after two days.

Jones was followed by junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference student-athletes Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) as each player had an 83-stroke total in round two.  Kapusta, who carries a 3.5 grade average in education, had an 80 yesterday and has a 163-stroke total and Hamilton, who carries a 3.94 grade average in English and philosophy and was a candidate for the NCAA Division III Elite 89 award, had an 85 on day-one and has a 168-stroke total so far.

In addition, sophomore 2-time All-OAC player Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) had an 85 today and an 80 yesterday for a two-day and 36-hole total of 165 strokes.  Sophomore 2-time first-team All-OAC player and 2012 OAC individual runner-up Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) had an 87 on the first day and a 91 total for a two-day total of 178 strokes.

The Yellow Jackets begin third round play on Thursday, May 10 at 8:00 a.m.  Friday's tee times were determined by the team standings following Thursday's round. This is B-W's fourth NCAA tourney appearance since 2000, including its second straight.
