Yellow Jacket Women Golfers First After First Day at OAC Tournament

LOCKBOURNE, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women's golf team stands first after the first day (Saturday, April 28) of competition at the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbuourne (Greater Columbus).  The second and final day of competition is tomorrow.

The Yellow Jackets, 33-7 overall this spring and 57-20-1 overall in 2011-12, totaled 345 strokes on the par-72 and 5,861-yard Foxfire G.C. layout and lead second place Otterbein University by 13 strokes.


In team play (each team has five golfers and the top four scores count toward the team total), sophomore
Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) led the way as she carded an 82. She was followed by juniors Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) with 86's, sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) with a 91 and sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) with a 103.

The winner of the OAC Championship Tournament receives the OAC's automatic berth in the 2012 NCAA Division III National Tournament.


A year ago, the B-W women's golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
