BW Women Finish Third at OAC North Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team placed third at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. This was the second indoor meet of the season for the Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin Wallace, Heidelberg University, John Carroll University, the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University were the five OAC schools competing in the meet. The other five schools participated in the OAC South Split Meet.  The BW women scored 93 points to finish third of five teams. 

The Yellow Jacket women were led by junior All-American multi-event student-athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) who placed first  in the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles and long jump.  Winters broke both the BW school and Harrison Dillard Track records in the 55-meter hurdles with an 8.24-second timing in the finals. She also set a school indoor mark in the 55-meter dash in the prelims in 7.29 seconds. Winters placed first in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, seven and one-quarter inches (18'7.25").

In addition, junior Division III All-American thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township / Chagrin Falls Kenston) placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 53'9.25" and won the shot put with a throw of 40'4".  Freshman jumper Erin Kasper (Amherst/ Marion Steele) placed second in the high jump clearing a height of 5'1" and placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 32'11.75". Placing second in the weight throw was junior All-OAC competitor Maggie Urban (Cleveland/ St. Joseph's Academy) with a toss of 49'9.25" . Sophomore Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/ Western Reserve) finished second in shot put with a throw of 38'8.75".

The Yellow Jacket men and women are back in action next weekend when the multi-event (pentathlon and heptathlon) portions of the annual All-Ohio Championships will be competed at Denison University on Saturday and Sunday, February 7-8 n the Mitchell Fieldhouse. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The next home meet is on Friday, Feb. 13 when BW hosts the annual Mid-February Meet on the Dillard Track in the Higgins Center. Field events begin at 4 p.m.
