Winters Earns Third All-American Award at National Meet; BW 25th

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Baldwin Wallace University junior pentathlete Mellanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) placed second in the five-event pentathlon to earn her third Division III All-American award and the Yellow Jacket women finished in a tie for 25th at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet. She was one of four Yellow Jacket student-athletes to compete and highlighted the Yellow Jacket effort.

Winters
scored 3,581 points, 18 shy of her BW school-record but 50 shy of winning her first national title.  She placed first in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.84 seconds for 941 points, first in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet and two and one-quarter inches (18'2.25") for 712 points, tied for fourth in the high jump at 5'3.25" for 747 points, 11th in the shot put with a throw of 31'5.25" for 502 points and 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:31.11 for 679 points.  Her eight points in the pentathlon led to BW's 25th-place finish at the meet.

In addition to the pentathlon, Winters also placed 13th individually in the women's high jump on Saturday with a leap of 5'3". Last spring, Winters earned Division III outdoors All-American honors in the high jump with a career-best leap of 5'8". Last winter, she earned her first All-American honor in the long jump.

In addition, junior All-American Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) competed in the weight throw on Friday and the shot put on Saturday. In the weight throw, she placed ninth with a throw of 54'11.5" and missed making All-American honors by one place (the top eight in each event earn Division III All-American honors).
