Winters Wins Three Events, Gallavan MV Field Athlete at OAC Indoor Championships

BEXLEY, Ohio – Junior All-American multi-event athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) won three individual titles and had two runner-up finishes and junior All-American thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) won both throwing events to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's track team to a fourth place finish at the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Capital University in the Capital Center.

The Yellow Jackets were fourth of 10 teams with 92 points.

Winters successfully defended her title in the high jump, long jump and 60-meter hurdles.   She won the high jump with a leap of five-feet and 5.75 inches (5'5.75"), the long jump with a leap of 18'6" and the 60-meter hurdles in 8.98 seconds.  Winters was second in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.82 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.54 seconds.  She is ranked in the top-nine nationally in Division III in the long jump (first), pentathlon (first), 200-meter dash (fourth), 60-meter dash (tied for fourth), 60-meter hurdles (tied fior fifth) and high jump (tied for ninth). 

Gallavan, who was named as the meet's Most Outstanding Thrower, won her second OAC individual title and earned her second All-OAC honor when she captured the shot put with a career-best toss of 45'7", which is the 11th best in Division III.  She won her first individual title when she won the weight throw on Friday with an OAC-record toss of 58'1", which is the third best Division III.  Gallavan has earned four All-OAC indoor honors, two each in the shot put and the weight throw.

In addition for the women, Freshman Erin Kasper (Amherst / Marion Steele) earned her first career All-OAC honor as she was the runner-up to Winters in the high jump with a career-best leap of 5'3.75.

The NCAA Division III National Championships are on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina hosted by Roanoke (Va.) College.
