Winters First and Holowecky Eighth at All-Ohio Combined Events Championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Junior All-American pentathlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished first and sophomore Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/Firelands) placed eighth at the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.

Winters won three of the five events and scored a career-high, school-record and Mitchell Fieldhouse-record 3,589 points.  She took first in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.99 seconds, the high jump with a career-best and leap of 5 feet 6 inches, and the long jump  with a Mitchell Fieldhouse-record leap of 18' 5.25". Winters took third in the shot put with a toss of 31' 7.25". She was sixth in the final event of the day in a time of 2:37.08 in the 800-meter run.

Holowecky scored 2,750 points and set two career-highs and tied one. She finished fourth in the 800-meter in a career-best time of 2:36.38. Holowecky placed fifth in the high jump with a career-high tying leap of 5' 0.25". She took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 15' 3.25". Holowecky placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 10.28. She placed 11th in the shot put with a career-high toss of 23' 9".

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 13 when it hosts the Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. Field events begin at 4:00 p.m. BW then travels to Westerville on Saturday, February 14 to compete in the All-Ohio Division III Championships hosted Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center at 12 p.m.
