BW Women Finish Eighth at NCAA Div. III National Track Meet; Winters Shines

CANTON, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team placed an all-time-best tying eighth at 2015 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University on the Merrick-Pinkard Track Complex. It also was an outstanding weekend for BW junior Division III All-Americans Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston).

The Yellow Jacket women scored 24 points and placed eighth of 72 teams.  They were led by Winters and Gallavan who combined to win All-America honors five times.

Winters scored 18 points and earned Division III All-American honors four times in the meet and for the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh times in her career. On Thursday, May 21, she placed third in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet and one and one-quarter inches (19'1.25". Today, Winters placed fourth in the high jump with a leap pf 5'6.5", placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in a school-record time of 24.42 seconds and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in a career-best of 14.16 seconds. She is now the most celebrated BW women's track and field student-athlete of all-time.

Gallavan scored six points placed third in the discus to earn her first career outdoor All-American honor and second in her career.  She had a career-best throw of 160'4". She was just three inches from tying the school-record set by Hall of Famer Claire DeChant in 2001. She also competed in the shot put but fouled on all three of her attempts.  She had a seasonal-best of 46'6.75".

In addition to Winters and Gallavan, sophomore Maggie Urban (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) competed in the hammer on Friday and placed 20th with a throw of 160'2" and shy of her seasonal-best and school-record of 179'0".  

The BW men's squad had six competitors advance to the national meet, including two individual competitors and its 4x100-meter relay team.  Senior All-American decathlete and pole vaulter Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) was joined by junior multiple national track qualifier and football middle linebacker Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/ Riverside) were joined by the 4x100-merer relay team of sophomore Troy Robinson (Akron/ Garfield), junior All-American and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ Saint Anselm's Academy, senior Isaac Baker (Lithia, Fla. / Newsome) and junior sprinter Michael Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ Saint Anselm's Academy).

Eddy placed 18th in the pole vault with a vault of 15'0.75". It was a foot off of his seasonal-best of 16'0.75".  Burdorff placed 16th in the hammer throw with a toss of 178'9" and 4'2" off his seasonal-best of 192'11". The 4x100-meter relay team placed 12th in 41.725 seconds and did not qualify for the finals. The quartet had a seasonal-best of 41.23 seconds.
