Women Tracksters Set One School Record and Three Career-Bests at Gator Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College. 

This was the first of three last chance meets for the Yellow Jackets to improve on their NCAA marks or to qualify for the NCAA National Meet.
   
Junior thrower Maggie Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) led the way as she won the hammer throw with a school record toss 179'.  Urban's throw improved on her sixth place mark in Division III.

In addition, junior All-American thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) was first in the shot put with a career-best 46'6.75", second in the discus with a 143'04 and fourth in the hammer with a career-best toss of 167'4".  Gallavan's mark in the shot put improved on her eighth place mark in Division III.

Also, freshman Erin Kasper (Amherst/ Marion Steele) tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5'1.75".  Sophomore thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) placed third in the discus with a career-best toss of 140'9". Junior jumper Marissa Hellisz (Parma/Normandy) was sixth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump.  Hellisz had a leap of 16'5.75" in the long jump and a 32'4.25" mark in the triple jump.

In the running events, junior All-American Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) took third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.86. The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/Firelands), Hellisz,  junior Ashley Wakut (Seven Hills/Normandy) and Winters finished fourth in  a season-best time of 49.52.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Monday, May 11 when they travel to Delaware for the Ron Althoff Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
