Men’s Tennis Earns Ninth Shutout Victory of Season

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis posted its ninth shutout of the season with a 9-0 non-conference victory versus Washington & Jefferson College at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.

BW (14-1), who won its third match against an opponent from the state of Pennsylvania, gained a 3-0 advantage after doubles play.   Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere), who is this week's OAC Player-of-the-Week, and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) improved to 15-3 at first singles with a 8-2 victory.   Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-4 to improve to 16-5 on the season.   Senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) took third doubles by a score of 8-0 to improve to 8-3 on the year.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the victory. Peter Harris won first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 and is now 19-3 on the season.   Ganim took number two by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 15-2 this season.  Patterson stayed perfect with a record of 16-0 as he netted a win at number three by identical scores of 6-0. Polifrone remained undefeated with a record of 17-0 as he posted a 6-0 and 6-0 victory at number four.  Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) kept his undefeated season alive as he improved to 16-0 at number singles with a win by identical scores of 6-0.   Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) secured number six single by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 10-3 on the year.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 19 when it plays a pair of non-conference road matches.   The Yellow Jackets first travel Waynesburg, Pennsylvania for a match against Waynesburg University at 11 a.m.   BW then travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania for a match against Westminster College at 4 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets play their first home outdoor match on Friday, March 25 when they open Ohio Athletic Conference action against the University of Mount Union on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
