Men’s Tennis Stays Unbeaten on Spring Break Trip

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis remained unbeaten on its annual spring break trip with two more non-conference victories on the second of four days of competition.

BW (10-0) opened the day with an 8-1 victory against Gettysburg (Pa.) College.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the day with its third 9-0 victory of the trip against Albion (Mich.) College.

Against Gettysburg, BW won two of three doubles matches.  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) won at first doubles by a score of 8-3.  Senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) won at third doubles by a score of 8-5.

In singles play, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the victory.  Peter Harris won at first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.  Ganim took second singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) won at third singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) captured fourth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2.  Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) took number five singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.   Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) won at number six by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.

Against Albion, BW won all three matches.  Peter Harris and Ganim earned a win at first doubles by a score of 8-1.  Patterson and Polifrone took second doubles by a score of 8-6.  Fredrick and Matt Harris won third doubles by a score of 8-0.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep by winning all six matches.   Peter Harris took first singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Ganim earned a second singles victory by scores of 6-4 and 6-0.   Patterson captured third singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.  Polifrone took fourth singles by identical scores of 6-1.  Katz won in three sets at number five by scores of 6-0, 4-6 and 10-5.   Liebler won his match at sixth singles by identical scores of 6-0.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when it continues play on its spring break trip with a non-conference doubleheader against Nazareth (N.Y.) College and Wilkes (Pa.) College.  The match against Nazareth is at 8 a.m. and the Wilkes match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
