Men’s Tennis Competes at Oberlin Invitational

Oberlin, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis started its 2015-16 season at the annual Oberlin College Invitational on the Don Hunsinger Tennis Courts.

BW had six of its 12 players post perfect 2-0 and records while three others picked up a victory.   Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference players Peter Harris (Akron/Revere), Doug Ganim ((Westerville /Olantangy Orange) and Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway), junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and freshmen Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) and Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) started off the 2015-16 campaign with two victories.
 

Peter Harris won his matches by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 against his Oberlin opponent and 6-3 and 6-1 versus his Denison opponent.  Ganim won in straight sets against his Wooster opponent by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and had a three-set victory against his Denison opponent by scores of 7-6, 3-6, 10-4.  Patterson posted scores of identical 6-4 against his Case Western Reserve opponent and had scores of 6-4 and 6-1 against his Oberlin opponent.  Katz defeated his John Carroll opponent by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 and finished his Wooster opponent in three-sets by scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 10-7.  Matt Harris fought hard for his first collegiate victories as he needed three-sets in both matches.  He defeated his John Carroll opponent by scores of 6-7, 7-5 and 10-5 then beat his Wooster opponent by scores of 2-6, 7-6 and 11-9.   Polifrone kept his collegiate recorded unblemished as he defeated his Wooster and Heidelberg opponents with identical 6-2 and 6-0, respectively.

In addition, senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) went 1-0 in the tournament while junior Jake Liebler (Medina) and freshman Roger Boyer (Brunswick) went 1-1.
 

In doubles action, the number one tandem of Peter Harris and Ganim and the number two team of Patterson and Polifrone each went 3-0.   Peter Harris and Ganim won their matches by scores of 8-5, 8-5 and 8-2.   Patterson and Polifrone picked up wins by scores of 8-2, 8-5 and 8-4.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action and close out the fall portion of their schedule this Friday through Monday, September 25 to 28 when they travels to St. Louis, Missouri to the compete in the ITA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Washington University.
