Men’s Tennis Sweeps OAC Doubleheader with Two Shutouts

MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team remained atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings as it swept an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College and Muskingum University at the Linder Family Tennis Center.

BW (20-1, 5-0 OAC) opened the day with a shutout of Marietta (x-x, x-x OAC) by a final score of 9-0.  The Yellow Jacket concluded the sweep as it shutout Muskingum (0-10, 0-6 OAC) by a final score of 9-0.  BW has now won its last nine matches and has 13 shutouts, including three straight.

Against the Pioneers, the Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 advantage after doubles play. The tandem of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) earned the victory at first doubles by a score of 8-0.   The duo of senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) moved up to second doubles and won by a score of 8-0.  The duo of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and junior Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) won at third doubles by a score of 8-2.  

In singles action, BW won all six matches to secure the victory. Peter Harris won first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-3. Ganim and Patterson earned wins at second and third singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) moved up one spot and secured number four singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.   Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) also moved up a slot and took fifth single by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.   Matt Harris won sixth singles by identical scores of 6-0 and improved to 6-0 this season.

Against Muskingum, the Yellow Jackets won every singles and doubles match and only surrendered one game in singles action.

In doubles play, BW won every match by scores of 8-0.  Peter Harris and Ganim improved 20-4 at first singles and 85-22 in their career as partners.  Fredrick and Matt Harris improved to 3-0 at second doubles and 14-3 overall.  Patterson and Carano won their match at third doubles and have a record of 2-0 on the season as partners.

In singles action, Peter Harris, Patterson, Katz, Liebler and Fredrick won their matches at first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively by identiacal scores of 6-0.  Ganim won his match at second singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.  Peter Harris improved to 24-3 on the season and 88-17 in his career.  Ganim is now 20-2 on the year and 81-17 in his career.  Patterson upped his record to 24-1 this season and is third all-time in BW history with a record of 89-17.  Katz stayed perfect on the year with a record of 21-0.  Liebler improved to 14-4 this season and Fredrick is 3-0 in limited action.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Ada for an OAC match against Ohio Northern University on the University Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.  The final regular season home match is on Saturday, April 23 when the BW hosts an OAC match against Capital University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
