Men’s Tennis Falls to NCAA Division I Cleveland State

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis was defeated by NCAA Division I Cleveland State University in a non-conference match by a final score of 7-0 inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. 

Cleveland State (13-11) state won all three double matches against BW (22-3) to lead 1-0.  In NCAA Division I tennis, the winners of the doubles matches earn one point. The tandem of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere), who is this week's OAC Player-of-the-Week, and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) had the closest match as dropped their first doubles match by a score of 6-4.  

In singles action, the Vikings won all six matches.  Peter Harris dropped a hard fought first singles match by scores of 3-6, 6-7 and 3-7 in the tie breaker. Ganim had  highly contested match at second singles as he fell by scores of 5-7 and 4-6.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) came up short at third singles by identical scores of 2-6 and 3-6.  Freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) dropped his fourth singles match by identical scores of 3-6. Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) lost his battle at fifth singles by identical scores of 1-6.  Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) was defeated at sixth singles by scores of 2-6 and 1-6.

BW closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when it travels to Cleveland for a non-conference match against cross-town rival and sixth-nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University on the Carlton Courts at 9 a.m.

BW, who is seeking its fifth OAC Tournament Championship, will enter the the 2016 OAC Tournament as the second-seed and will host the seventh-seeded Heidelberg University Student Princes on Wednesday, May 4 in a quarterfinal match on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.   The OAC Tournament semifinal and championship matches will be played on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Mason.  Friday's semifinal match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the championship match will be contested at 2 p.m.
