Men’s Tennis Earns Fifth OAC Shutout of Season with 9-0 Victory at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team stayed perfect in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings as it posted 9-0 shutout victory against Ohio Northern University on the University Tennis Courts

BW (21-1, 6-0 OAC), who has netted a shutout in five of its six OAC matches, took all three doubles matches from Ohio Northern (5-11, 2-4 OAC). The tandem of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) earned the victory at first doubles by a score of 8-4 to improve to 21-4 at first singles and 86-22 in their career as partners.   The duo of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway), who is this week's OAC Player-of-the-Week, and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-0 and are now 20-5 on the season.   The team of Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) moved up to second doubles and won by a score of 8-1 and upped their record to 15-3.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the win.  Peter Harris earned the victory at first singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to improve to 25-3 on the season and 89-17 in his career. Ganim won at second singles by identical scores of 6-1 and is now 21-2 on the year and 82-17 in his career.  Patterson upped his record to 25-1 this season and is third all-time in BW history with a record of 90-17 after winning his match at third singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  Polifrone captured fourth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-4 and improved to 22-1 in his first season. Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) took fifth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to stay perfect on the year with a record of 23-0.  Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) earned the win at sixth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 and improved to 15-4 this season.

BW closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule on Saturday, April 23 when it hosts an OAC match against Capital University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets play a rescheduled OAC match against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m. on the campus of Ursuline College.
