OAC Leading Men’s Tennis Team Knocks off Otterbein

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team remained atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings as it defeated Otterbein University by a final score of 7-2 at the North Ridge Tennis and Golf Club.

BW (17-1, 2-0 OAC) won its sixth straight match.  Otterbein (7-6, 1-1 OAC) snapped a four-match winning streak.

The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-1 to improve to 18-5 on the season.   Senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) won the final five points after trailing 6-3 to capture took third doubles by a score of 8-6.  Fredrick and Matt Harris improved to 11-3 on the year.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the victory. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) won first singles by identical scores of 6-2 and now is 21-3 on the season.   Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) took number two by identical scores of 6-2 to improve to 17-2 this season.  Patterson netted a win at number three by identical scores of 6-1 as he improved to 21-1 on the season. Polifrone posted a 6-1 and 6-4 victory at number four to up his record to 20-1 this year.  Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) remained undefeated on the season as he improved to 18-0 at number five singles with a win by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.  

BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 5 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC match against cross-town rival John Carroll University at 3:30 p.m.  The next home match is on Wednesday, April 13 when the Yellow Jackets host an OAC match against Heidelberg University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
