Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Portion of Schedule with a Pair of Victories

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis won a pair of non-conference matches to open the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule at the North Ridge Racquet Club.

Against Franciscan, the Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 advantage in doubles play.  The number one tandem of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) won by a score of 8-1. The number two duo of senior All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won a tight match 9-7.  The number three tandem of senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) won by a score of 8-2.

In singles play, BW completed the shutout by winning all six matches.  Peter Harris won at first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.  Ganim won at second singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-3.  Patterson won at third singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.  Polifrone won at fourth singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-0 Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) won at fifth singles by identical scores of 6-2. Junior Jake Leibler (Medina) won at sixth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

Against Penn State Behrend, the Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 advantage as the number one team of Patterson and Polifrone won by a score of 8-1, the number two duo of Katz and Liebler won by a score of 7-2 and the number three tandem of junior Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) and junior Brandon Caynor (Norton) won by a final score of 8-0.

In singles action, BW won five of six matches.  Polifrone won at first singles by identical scores of 6-0.   Katz won at second singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Liebler won at third singles by identical scores of 6-0.   Matt Harris won at fourth singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Freshman Roger Boyer (Brunswick) won at fifth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 20 when they Dayton for a pair of non-conference dual matches against Wittenberg University and Earlham (Ind.) College at the Dayton Center Courts.   The match against Wittenberg is scheduled for 8 a.m. and the match with Earlham is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
