Women’s Volleyball Earns a Pair of Sweeps on Day 1 of the Penn St. Behrend Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team earned a pair of sweeps in day one of the Penn St. Behrend Invitational after facing Bluffton University and Fredonia (N.Y.). The two victories improve the Yellow Jackets to 5-3 overall.

Match 1 

The Yellow Jackets were superior on the offensive end against the Beavers, totaling 44 kills and hitting .205 as a team. Defensively, BW was just as sharp as they tallied 58 digs to Bluffton's 50 total. The Yellow Jackets also outblocked the Beavers (7-6).

BW earned the sweep by set scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-20. The loss drops Bluffton to 2-4 overall. The Yellow Jackets also tallied 42 assists and two service aces.

Academic All-OAC and First Team All-OAC selection senior outside hitter, Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.), led BW with 15 kills and hit .333. Earl earned a double-double by posting 17 digs. Academic All-OAC and All-OAC performer senior outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) and Academic All-OAC Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) also reached double-digit kills, tallying 10 a piece.

Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished with 36 assists, eight digs, and three kills. Freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) posted 11 digs.

Match 2

The Yellow Jackets dominated the Fredonia Blue Devils, earning the victory in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-15, and 25-8. The loss moves Fredonia to 2-3 overall.

Based on unofficial statistics, Hamisch led the Yellow Jackets with 10 kills and hit .444. Earl posted seven kills and five digs while freshman right side hitter Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) added four kills. Reid tallied 17 assists and Gardner totaled nine digs and four service aces for the Yellow Jackets.

BW is back in action tomorrow, September 11, as the Yellow Jackets take on Penn St. Behrend at 11:00 a.m. and Westminster (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m. in day two of the Penn St. Behrend Invitational.
