Women’s Volleyball Drops to Mount Union on Seniors’ Night

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team hosted the University of Mount Union for Seniors' Night in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. Despite earning the huge second set win, the Yellow Jackets fell in four sets by set scores of 21-25, 27-25, 19-25, and 18-25.

In their last regular season home match, BW (17-10, 3-5 OAC) tallied 54 kills. That ties Mount Union's (20-5, 7-1 OAC) 54 kill total. Each team notched four service aces. On the defensive end, the Yellow Jackets earned the advantage in digs (72-64) while the Purple Raiders outblocked BW (14-6.5). 

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) who totaled her career-high 20 kills. Hamisch exploded on the offensive end and was unstoppable by the Purple Raiders, hitting .576 with her one error in the match. She also recorded four total blocks.

Senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) notched a double-double in tonight's match, posting 13 kills and 14 digs. Freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/Saint Joseph Academy) finished with 21 digs on the back line for BW and added five assists.

Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) dished out 42 assists, 10 digs, four kills, and two blocks. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) totaled nine kills and four blocks. Senior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) notched 13 digs for the Yellow Jackets.

BW returns to play as the Yellow Jackets close out the regular season this Saturday, October 30. BW travels to Marietta College where it will compete against OAC opponent Marietta at 1:00 p.m. and non-conference opponent Ohio Wesleyan University at 3:00 p.m. inside Ban Johnson Arena.
