Women’s Volleyball Grabs Two Wins on Day 1 of Franklin (Ind.) Invitational

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team faced Trine (Ind.) University (8-7) and Anderson (Ind.) University (5-8) for two non-conference matchups on day one of the Franklin (Ind.) Invitational. The Yellow Jackets earned two victories to improve to 12-3 overall on the year and extend their win streak to 10 in a row.

BW first faced Trine, where the Yellow Jackets earned the five-set win by set scores of 25-20, 12-25, 25-19, 23-25, and 15-11. BW tallied 51 kills and 63 digs, outperforming the Thunder in both categories.

Facing Anderson in the second match of the night, BW earned the 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 26-24. The Yellow Jackets posted 37 kills, 50 digs, and 32 assists.

Match 1 Leaders: Senior All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) finished with 18 kills and four digs. Freshman right side hitter Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) earned 12 kills.

Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) dished out 43 assists and added seven digs. Senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) posted 14 digs while freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) notched 12.

Match 2 Leaders: Earl tallied 13 kills and hit .321 while adding nine digs. Hamisch posted eight kills, hitting .300. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) finished with seven kills.

Gardner posted another double-digit dig count, finishing with 18 and added three service aces. Reid notched 25 assists while senior defensive specialist Angela Dunn (Fairview Park/Fairview) earned four service aces.

BW returns to the court tomorrow, September 25, as the Yellow Jackets compete in day two of the Franklin Invitational. BW will take on Fontbonne (Mo.) University at 10:00 AM and Franklin University at 12:00 PM.
