Women’s Volleyball Earns Two Wins, Goes Undefeated at Franklin (Ind.) Invitational

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team (14-3) took on Fontbonne (Mo.) University (1-6) and Franklin (Ind.) University (8-7) on day two of the Franklin Invitational. The Yellow Jackets earned a 3-0 sweep over Fontbonne to garner Coach Kacie Ehinger's 50th career win as a head coach before grabbing another with over Franklin, 3-1.

The Yellow Jackets notched the huge 3-0 victory over Fontbonne in the first match of the day, sweeping the Griffins by set scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13. BW earned 35 kills, 48 digs and 10 services aces as a team, outperforming Fontbonne.

In match two of the day, BW earned the win in set one and set two by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. Despite dropping set three to Franklin, the Yellow Jackets dominated set four to win 25-12 and earn the four-set victory. BW tallied 58 kills, 57 assists, 84 digs, and eight service aces as a team. The two wins today help the Yellow Jackets to achieve a 4-0 weekend at the Franklin Invitational.

Match 1 Leaders: Senior All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) notched 11 kills, hitting .360. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) posted seven kills while senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) earned six kills and 12 digs.

Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) dished out 30 assists for BW. Senior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) tallied nine digs and three service aces while Freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) added eight digs.

Match 2 Leaders: Both Hamisch and Earl led BW with 16 kills. Earl also added 18 digs. Freshman right side hitter Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) had a remarkable match at the net, totaling 15 kills and hitting .289.

Reid posted 48 assists, eight digs, and three kills. Gardner earned another 20+ dig count, finishing with 22. Martin tallied 17 digs for BW while Luciano finished with five kills and two total blocks.

BW returns to the court on Wednesday, September 29 as the Yellow Jackets host Otterbein University for the OAC conference opener. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Lou Higgins Center in Ursprung Gymnasium.
