Women’s Volleyball Aims to Challenge for Top of OAC

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team looks to improve on last spring's fourth place finish and 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference Semifinal run as they begin their season on September 1.

BW, picked to finish fourth in the OAC in the recent preseason coaches' poll, and head coach Kacie Ehinger are excited to improve on their 14-6, 13-5 OAC record from the 2021 Spring season.

Welcoming back two All-OAC award winners, four starters, and nine letterwinners, the Yellow Jackets have a lot of leadership rejoining the roster this fall. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals for the third straight season last year and look to extend that run in the upcoming campaign.

The Yellow Jackets welcome back its top leader in kills, Academic All-OAC Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.). A First Team All-OAC selection, Earl concluded last season with 235 kills, averaging 3.51 kills per set. She played in and started every match for BW, totaling 189 digs and was the service ace leader (28).

All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) will also return to this fall's roster. Hamisch totaled 227 kills, 50 digs, and 18 total blocks for BW. Academic All-OAC Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South), who started every match last year, will return for her junior campaign. Luciano was the block leader for the Yellow Jackets, posting a 39 total.

Angela Dunn (Fairview Park/Fairview) will be reinstating, taking her extra year of eligibility. BW is also pleased to have Academic All-OAC Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) resuming her career. Martin tallied 150 digs and 18 service aces for the Yellow Jackets last season. Other returning letterwinners are Academic All-OAC Isabella Moskowitz (Brighton, Mich.), Nicole Logan (Hilliard/Darby), Kaitlyn Frederick (Sugar Grove/Berne Union), and Academic All-OAC Madeline Bednar (Chagrin Falls/Kenston).

The Yellow Jackets are excited to welcome six talented freshman: Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales), Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), Sydney Simonson (Sullivan/Black River), Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), Alyssa Saghy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair), Ashleigh Curtiss (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and one transfer, Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph), joining the roster this fall with the returning letterwinners.

BW will begin its season with an away non-conference contest against Franciscan University in Steubenville next Wednesday, September 1 at 7:00 PM.
