BW Victorious on Senior Day, Claims Spot in Post-Season

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team celebrated Seniors' and Parents' Day with a match against Marietta College at Urspung Gymnasium, inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW's lone senior, three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk), was accompanied by her parents to midcourt and recognized before the game.

The Yellow Jackets (26-4, 6-3 OAC) defeated the Pioneers (11-18, 2-7 OAC) in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-17, sealing them a spot in the OAC tournament.

Lortcher was prominent in the BW attack as she recorded 13 kills. Also in double digit kills was freshman outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell) with 11. Setting the offense in motion was senior setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) and sophomore setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont), who had 22 and 17 assists respectively. Lortcher and Earl also had three service aces a piece.

Defensively, BW had three Yellow Jackets in double figure digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) led the team with 17. Earl and Lortcher had 13 and 15, respectively. Sophomore utility player Alexis Garrett (Mentor) had the lone Yellow Jackets block.

BW is set to compete in the OAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 30, at 7 p.m. Their opponent will be Heidelberg University.
