Volleyball Defeats HCAC Challengers in Straight Sets

MANCHESTER, Indiana – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team traveled to Manchester, Indiana for a tri-match with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foes Manchester (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) University.

BW vs. Franklin University

BW (17-1) defeated Franklin in three straight sets behind freshman Mary Zurbrugg's (Alliance) team leading 16 kills. Senior setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) facilitated the offense with 22 assists. Sophomore setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) set the BW offense up for success with 14 assists of her own. Defensively the Yellow Jackets were supported by sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Moser (Durham, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), who tallied 18 and 13 digs respectively. Zurbrugg pitched in defensively with a solo block and assisted block.

BW vs. Manchester University

The Yellow Jackets defeated host Manchester in straight sets, improving their winning streak to 14 games. Leading the offense was sophomore middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) who marked 11 of the Yellow Jackets 38 kills. Egan and Nuding amassed 30 of the teams' 32 assists, putting fellow Yellow Jackets in great opportunities to score. Reinhard anchored the back line with a team leading 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell) defended the net with one solo block and an assisted block as well.

BW's next match will be against Thiel (Pa.) College, this upcoming Tuesday at Hiram College, with game time set at 5 p.m.
