BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team hosted Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Ursprung Gymnasium, at the Lou Higgins Center.

It took BW (23-2 overall, 3-1 OAC) four hard fought sets to seal the victory over Heidelberg (16-6 overall, 3-1 OAC), with finals of 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22. This is the first victory over Heidelberg since the Mount St. Joseph tournament on September 9, 2007 and the first OAC victory over Heidelberg since October 3, 2006.

Three different Yellow Jackets registered double-digit kills. Freshman outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell) set a career best of 18 kills to lead the charge. Freshman outside hitter Mary Zurbrugg (Alliance) and sophomore middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) recorded 16 and 11 kills respectively. Conducting the offense, with 35 assists, was sophomore setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont). Senior setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) contributed with 19 assists, providing a 1-2 punch for the Yellow Jackets.

After setting a personal best of 32 digs on September 29 this season, sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) would break that benchmark tonight with 35 digs. Egan helped defend the back line with 12 digs of her own. Brown protected the net with 2 solo blocks and sophomore utility player Alexis Garrett (Mentor) tallied three assisted blocks.

BW continues OAC play with a 1 p.m. start at Muskingum University on Saturday, October 13.
