Yellow Jacket Women Tracksters Take First at Greater Cleveland Championships

BEREA, OHIO
– The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field teams finished first at the Greater Cleveland Championship Meet tonight (Friday, February 17, 2012) on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. The meet consisted of Baldwin-Wallace, Case Western Reserve, John Carroll and Oberlin.

The Yellow Jacket women finished first of five teams with 248 points and nine athletes captured first place.

The B-W women were led by senior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) placed first in the shot put as she posted a mark of 42'6.25". In the weight throw she finished second throwing a distance of 51'11.25".

In the field events, sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) finished first in the high jump with a distance of 5'1.75". In the weight throw, junior Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) placed first with a mark of 53'6.25". Also in the shot put, freshman Danielle Torrence (Canton/South) placed second as posted a mark of 40'10.25, Perrine finished third with a distance of 40'0.5". In the Junior Stephanie Shockley (Tiffin/Columbian) placed first in the pole vault clearing a height of 10'00". In the long jump, freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) finished second with a distance of 16'0.25". In the triple jump, Shockley finished in second place leaping a distance of 33'1.0".
 
In the running events, sophomores Nicole Smith (Geneva) and Krista Wharton (Cincinnati/Colerain) placed first and second in the 500-meter dash in times of 1:20.10 and 1:33.38, respectively. Junior Brittany Sterling (Lima) finished first in the 55-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in a time of 7.55 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Smith finished first in a time of 26.93 seconds. Also in the 200-meter dash, Sterling finished second in a time of 27.34 seconds. In the 55-meter hurdles, Christner and junior Courtney Kiner (Sunbury/Ashland) finished first and second as they crossed the finish line on times of 8.80 and 9.03 seconds. In the 800-meter dash, sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) placed first in a time of 2:21.17.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 as select individuals will compete at the Kent State University Open Meet at 11:00 a.m. The OAC Championship meet will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 24 and 25th inside the Clements Recreation Center on the campus of Otterbein University.  The meet is scheduled to start each day at 12:00 p.m.
