DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's outdoor track and field teams placed third today (Saturday, April 7, 2012) at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Meet. This was the fourth outdoor meet this spring and the second up north.
The women were led by its sprinters and throwers, had three individual champs and a winning relay team and scored 119 points. Host OWU won both the men's and women's titles.
The women's throwers were led by senior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/ Catholic Central) who won the shot put with a season-best throw of 40'11.5" and the hammer with another best throw of 162'0". She also placed 10th in the discus at 107'1". Junior Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) won the discus with a season-best throw of 144'2", placed second in the shot at 40'3.25" and was fourth in the hammer with another best of 144'5".
The sprint corps were led by the winning 4 x 100-meter relay team of juniors Brittany Sterling (Lima) and Kaylan Lemon (Canton /Massillon Perry), senior Lauren Nanni (Parma/ Padua Franciscan) and sophomore Shaquella Greeno (Lima) in a season-best time of 49.13 seconds. In addition, Lemon was second in the 100-meter dash in a season-best of 12.63 seconds and in the 200 meters in 25.94 seconds and ran the lead leg of the third place 4 x 400-meter relay in a season-best of 4:06.43. She was joined on that relay squad by sophomore Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby/ South), sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) and sophomore Nicole Smith (Geneva). Hradisky also placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:20.18.
The Yellow Jacket women are back in action next Saturday, April 14 when they travel back to Delaware, Ohio to participate in the 2012 All-Ohio Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University. Field events begin at 10:00 a.m. and running events start at 12:30 p.m.
