MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- A number of Baldwin-Wallace College track and field student-athletes competed today (Saturday, March 10, 2012) on the second and final day of the Annual Coastal Carolina University Snowbird Invitational. The meet includes 47 schools from Division I, II, III, NAIA and the Junior College ranks.
The women were lead by sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Heights/ Western Reserve) in the field events, placing tenth in the womens high jump with a height of 5'1".
For the women's track events, sophomore Blair Vrcan (Mentor) lead the way finishing seventh with a time of 13:06.56. Senior Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye) followed behind her finishing eighth with 13:13.37, and sophomore Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/Midview) finished 10th with a time of 13:37.89. In the women's 4x400, the team of junior Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry), and sophomores Brooke Hradisky (Aurora), Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/South) and Nicole Smith (Geneva), finished ninth with a time of 4:11.12.
Yesterday the women were led by freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) turned in the best performance as she placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet and one and three-quarter inches (16'1.75"). In the 10,000-meter run, junior Shaina Kovatch (Parma/ Valley Forge) placed sixth in 38:36.59 and senior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) was ninth in 39:12.47. In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Hutka placed 16th with a time of 19:50.23 and freshman Diusica Vasic (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) placed 21st in 20:54.85. In the javelin throw, Brown placed 32nd with a toss of 88'7". In the hammer throw, sophomore Alex Shaw (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Bishop Canevin) placed 39th with a throw of 98'3".
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, March 16-17, when they compete at the annual University of North Carolina Charlotte 49er Invitational Meet.
