Yellow Jacket Women Tracksters Finish First at OAC North Split Meet

BEREA, OHIO –
The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet tonight (Friday, January 27, 2012) on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. The OAC North Split meet consisted of B-W, Heidelberg University, John Carroll University, the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University

The Yellow Jacket women took first of five teams with 218 points and four athletes captured first place.

The women were led by junior All-OAC thrower Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) as she placed first in the weight throw and shot put with distances of 54'7.25" and 42'0.5". Placing second and fourth in the weight throw was senior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) and freshman Danielle Torrence (Canton/South) recording marks of 51'0.25" and 41'3.25", respectively. In the long jump, sophomore jumper Brittany Gerhardstein (Mentor) and junior Jessica Ballard (Cardington/Buckeye Valley) placed second and third jumping distances of 15'7.0" and 15'3.5, respectively. In the high jump, freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) and sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) tied for second as they each cleared a height of 4'7.75".

In the running events for the women, the team of junior Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry), junior Lauren Nanni (Parma/Padua Franciscan), sophomore Shaquella Greeno (Lima) and junior Brittany Sterling (Lima) placed second in the 4x200 relay as they crossed the finish line in a time of 1:49.15. In the 4x400-meter relay, Lemon, sophomore Nicole Smith (Geneva), sophomore Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/Willoughby South) and sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) combined to place first in a time of 4:09.38.  Lemon also placed first in the 55-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in a time of 7.47 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Lemon earned her second first place finish as she crossed the finish line in a time of 26.93 seconds. In the 500-meter dash Smith placed second as she finished in a time of 1:20.95. In the 800-meter dash, Hradisky placed second in a time of 2:27.13. Smith and junior Courtney Kiner (Sunbury/Ashland) placed second and third in the 55-meter hurdles, they crossed the finish line in times of 8.95 and 9.30 seconds, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 4 when both teams will travel to Wooster to compete in the Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by the College of Wooster at 12:00 noon. The next home meet is on Friday, February 10 when the teams will host the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5:00 p.m.
