BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field team opened its 2012 season tonight (Friday, January 20, 2012) at the B-W Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. The women placed first scoring 176 total points

Sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) placed first in the high jump as she leaped 5'0.25". In the weight throw, junior Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) placed first with a mark of 54'00". Placing second in the weight throw was senior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Central Catholic) with a throw of 50'7.25". Sophomore Brittany Gerhardstein (Mentor) placed second in the long jump with a distance of 16'0.5". In the pole vault, junior Stephanie Shockley (Tiffin/Columbian) placed second as she posted a mark of 10'00".

In the running events for the women, in the 1,000-meter run, junior Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/South) placed first in a time of 3:16.31. Hoogeveen also finished second in the one-mile run with a time of 5:30.92. In the 55-meter hurdles, placing first was junior Courtney Kiner (Sunbury/Ashland) as she crossed the finish line in a time of 9.31 seconds. Sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) placed first in the 200-meter dash in a time of 2:26.25. Placing fifth in the one-mile run was sophomore Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/Midview) as she crossed the finish line in a time of 5:45.39. In 400-meter dash, sophomore Nicole Smith (Geneva) placed second in a time of 1:03.07.

The B-W track and field teams will be back in action on Friday, January 27 when the teams will host the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5:00 p.m.
