MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- A number of Baldwin-Wallace College track and field student-athletes competed today (Friday, March 9, 2012) on the first day of the Annual Coastal Carolina University Snowbird Invitational. The meet includes 47 schools from Division I, II, III, NAIA and the Junior College ranks.
For the women, freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) turned in the best performance as she placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet and one and three-quarter inches (16'1.75"). In the 10,000-meter run, junior Shaina Kovatch (Parma/ Valley Forge) placed sixth in 38:36.59 and senior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) was ninth in 39:12.47. In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/ Grafton Midview) placed 16th with a time of 19:50.23 and freshman Dusica Vasic (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) placed 21st in 20:54.85. In the javelin throw, sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/ Western Reserve) placed 32nd with a toss of 88'7". In the hammer throw, sophomore Alex Shaw (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Bishop Canevin) placed 39th with a throw of 98'3".
Competition continues tomorrow. Following the CCU Invitational, the Yellow Jackets return to Berea and classes resume. Next weekend, Friday and Saturday, March 16-17, B-W is at the annual University of North Carolina Charlotte 49er Invitational Meet.
