TOLEDO, OHIO --  Select Baldwin-Wallace College individual performers competed today (Friday, May 4, 2012) at the Rocket Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo. The meet consisted of athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as junior colleges hoping to qualify for the 2012 National Championship Meet.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, California on May 24-26. 

The women's squad was led by senior thrower Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) who finished second in the hammer (152'0.40") and fourth in both the discus and shot with marks of 130'10" (discus) and a season-best throw of 43'5" (shot put). Junior Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) took second in the discus (141'5") and placed fifth in both the hammer and shot put with a marks of 145'4.09" (hammer) and season-best throw of 41'9" (shot put) . Freshman Danielle Torrence (Canton/South) took fifth in the discus with season-best throw of 127'5".  Sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) took third in the high jump with a leap of five feet two inches.

In the running events, the Yellow Jacket women were led by the winning 4x100-meter relay team of consisting of juniors Brittany Sterling (Lima),Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry) and Lauren Nanni (Parma/Padua Franciscan) and sophomore Shequello Greeno (Lima) as they crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 49.18.  Lemon also took fifth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.73. Sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) placed fifth in the 800-meter and 3,000-meter runs in a times of 2:22.19 and 12:25.30 respectively.

The Yellow Jacket qualifying hopefuls are back in action on Friday, May 11 when they will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania to compete in Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College. The final last chance meet takes place on May 18 when the hopefuls will travel to Naperville, Illinois to compete in the  Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College
