Women Track & Field Teams Compete at Gator Invite

MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the unscored Allegheny College (Pa.) Gator Invitational Meet today (Friday, May 11, 2012) in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The meet is utilized as a "Last Chance" meet for athletes to hit or better their NCAA Division III national qualifying marks.

Highlighting the meet for B-W was sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) who placed second in the discus with a season and career-best throw of 150-feet and 11 inches for the fourth-best throw in Division III this season. A year ago, Perrine placed ninth at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship Meet and narrowly missed All-America honors. She also placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 162'9" for the 31st-best throw in Division III this year.

Senior thrower Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) led the way as she finished second in the shot put with a throw of 43'8.50" to rank 16th nationally and fourth in the hammer with a mark of 156'8". Freshman Danielle Torrence (Canton/South) placed fourth in the shot put with a season-best mark of 41'8" to rank 49th nationally, and she placed sixth in the hammer with a season-best throw of 146'9".

In the running events for the women, junior Kaylan Lemon (Canton/ Perry) led the way as she finished first in the 200-meter dash in 25.26 seconds to rank 45th nationally in Division III. Lemon also finished third in the 100-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in a time of 12.26 seconds to rank 25th nationally. Also in the 100-meter dash, freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) finished right behind Lemon as she placed fourth crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 15.33 seconds.  The 4 x 100-meter relay team consisting of junior Brittany Sterling (Lima), Lemon, senior Lauren Nanni (Parma/ Padua Fransiscan) and sophomore Shaquella Greeno (Lima) was fourth with a time of 49.17 seconds. In the 800-meter dash, sophomore Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) finished in ninth as she crossed the finish line in a time of 2:21.34.

The final "last chance" meet takes place next week, on Friday, May 18 at North Central (Ill.) College for the Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Claremont-Mud-Scripps (Calif.) College in Claremont, California from May 24-26.
