Women’s Soccer Claims First OAC Victory at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team went on the road to take on Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference match. They defeated the Quakers by a final score of 2-1 on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium. 

BW Leaders (6-6, 1-2 OAC)

  • Freshman midfielder Mary Litzinger (Sardinia/Eastern Brown) and sophomore forward Natalie Stewart (Blacklick/Gahanna Lincoln) scored one goal each.
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Maddie Farrell (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and junior All-OAC forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) each added an assist.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) recorded 10 saves.

Wilmington Leaders (6-6, 0-3 OAC)

  • Elizabeth Matthews scored the lone goal for the Quakers.
  • Lauren Galloway led the team with eight saves. 

First Half (Tie 0-0)

  • The first half featured mostly back-and-forth play as both teams took shots on the goals. 
  • The Yellow Jackets picked up a corner kick early in the first half but were unable to put the ball in the net. 
  • Wilmington had one corner kick as well. 

Second Half (BW 2-1)

  • At 61:57 the Yellow Jackets were first on the board when Farrell slid a low ball through the box to Stewart who tapped it in past the goalie.
  • Just 10 minutes later Rice crossed the ball in front of the net, where Litzinger was able to bury it into the net. 

BW will return to action on Wednesday, October 12th when it hosts crosstown rival John Carroll University in an OAC game on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
