ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team picked up their second nonconference victory of the weekend over Penn State-Behrend by a final score of 3-2 to claim the championship at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.
BW (2-0) Leaders
- Sophomore forward Ella Barth (Highland/Mayfield) was named Most Valuable Player of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.
- Junior midfielder Jillian Neal (Fairlawn/Copley) picked up her first career goal.
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) and Barth each contributed a goal.
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Farrell (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), junior defender Paige Ackerman (Sandusky/St. Mary Central Catholic) and sophomore defender Hailey Schwade (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) each assisted a goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) recorded twos saves on the four shots she faced.
Penn State-Behrend (1-1) Leaders
- Mia Zec led with two goals.
- Morgan Harding had seven saves on the 10 shots he faced.
First Half (PSB 1-0)
- The first 23 minutes featured back and forth play, with a corner kick for each side.
- At the 23:41 mark, the Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a shot from Zec inside the box.
- Penn-State Behrend picked up two more corner kicks before the end of the half.
Second Half (BW 3-2)
- At the 58-minute mark, the Nittany Lions scored their second goal of the match on a penalty kick by Zec.
- Following a BW corner kick, a hit on the crossbar, and a hit on the post Neal was able to place the ball in the back of the net for the first Yellow Jacket goal of the match.
- Just one minute later, Rice found the net tying up the score off Ackerman's first career assist.
- Barth picked up the third goal for the Yellow Jackets off a corner kick from Schwade at the 80-minute mark.
- BW outshot Penn St. Behrend by a mark of 14-5 in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, September 7th when they travel to Oberlin to take on non-conference opponent Oberlin College. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Shults Field.
