Women’s Soccer Kicks Off the Season with a Win Over Fredonia

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team kicked off the 2022 season with a 1-0 nonconference victory over SUNY Fredonia (N.Y.) in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. 

BW (1-0) Leaders

  • Junior All-OAC forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) scored the lone goal of the match.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) had three saves on the three shots that she faced. 

Fredonia (0-1) Leaders

  • Sabrina Suriani recorded 10 saves on the 11 shots she faced. 

First Half (BW 1-0)

  • The Yellow Jackets came out fast with multiple shots on goal in the first 10 minutes.
  • After 11 minutes of play, Rice took a shot from outside the box that hit that back of the net. 
  • BW dominated possession for the remainder of the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets had three corner kicks to the Blue Devils' one.

Second Half (BW 1-0)

  • BW started the second half strong, getting many opportunities at the goal.
  • The Yellow Jackets took a total of 12 shots on goal, but none found the back of the net.
  • The BW defense limited Fredonia to one shot in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets and Blue Devils tied the half with two corner kicks each. 

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 3rd for its second match of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will take on Penn State-Behrend at 7:30 p.m. at the Penn State-Behrend Soccer Complex.
