Women’s Soccer Tops the Blue Streaks

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team picked up their second consecutive victory when they took down crosstown rival John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 4-1 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW Leaders (7-6, 2-2 OAC)

  • Freshman midfielder Mary Litzinger (Sardinia/Eastern Brown) led with two goals. After scoring in two consecutive games, Litzinger is second on the team with four goals on the season.
  • Junior All-OAC forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) led with one assist.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) led with 11 saves.

John Carroll Leaders (7-5-2, 3-1 OAC)

  • Freshman midfielder Meredith Coloain scored the lone Blue Streaks goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Stease made seven saves in goal. 

First Half (2-1, BW)

  • Rice started the scoring action early when she scored off her own rebound in the third minute.
  • Coloain was able to get John Carroll on the board in the seventh minute off a penalty kick.
  • Litzinger put the Yellow Jackets back on top with her first goal of the game when she scored from the corner.
  • BW doubled the Blue Streaks shots as they take 16 shots in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets had two corner kick opportunities.
  • John Carroll made six saves while the Yellow Jackets made five saves.

Second Half (4-1, BW)

  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Farrell (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) extended the BW lead off a cross from Rice.
  • Litzinger finished off the scoring with her second goal of the game off a rebound in the 69th minute.
  • The Yellow Jackets attack took nine shots while the Blue Streaks took six shots.
  • BW led the half with three corner kicks.
  • Scott led the half making six saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 15 when they host an OAC and Senior's Night game against Muskingum University on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
