Women's Soccer Team Beats Westminster (Pa.), 4-2, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team defeated Westminster (Pa.) College, 4-2, today (Saturday, September 25, 2010) in a non-league match on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  This was the first match of a women's and then men's doubleheader. The men's match kicks off at 3:00 p.m.

With its win, B-W is now 5-5 overall, and next plays on Tuesday, Sept. 28 when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play a non-league match versus the St. Vincent College at 5:00 p.m. Westminster is now 4-3-1 overall.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at the 22:16 mark of the first half when sophomore forward Angie Wigton (Worthington/Worthington Christian) scored her first goal of the season when she finished a rebound off a blocked Yellow Jacket shot.

In the second half, four goals were scored within four minutes starting at the 51:14 mark when junior midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/New Albany) headed home a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Leah Poiner (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls). Then 56 seconds later, sophomore forward Brigitte Petrash (Parma/Normandy) scored off an assist from Cooper. However, in just 21 seconds, Westminster answered with a goal from Sarah Yee, making the score 3-1 in favor of B-W.

The Yellow Jackets added a fourth tally at the 55:31 mark when freshman midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/Cloverleaf) scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Lindsey Mikula (Rocky River). It was Gokey's first career goal as a Yellow Jacket. Westminster added a second goal at 73:54 from Brittany Grabski.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Westminster, 17-13, and but Westminster won the corner kick battle, 7-5.

In net, B-W senior Caitlin Sutter (Toledo/ Sylvania Southview), making her first career start, played all 90 minutes and made eight saves. Sutter is B-W's usual center back on defense, but was moved to goalie today.
