Women's Soccer Team Earns First OAC Win With 4-0 Victory Over Heidelberg

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace University women's soccer team tied a season-high with four goals and earned its first Ohio Athletic Conference win this season as it defeated OAC foe Heidelberg University, 4-0, tonight (Tuesday, October 12, 2010) at the George Finnie Stadium, in Berea.

With its win, B-W is now 6-7-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the OAC. With its loss, Heidelberg is now 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets scored the lone goal when freshman midfielder Heather Keller (Parma/ Senior) tallied her sixth goal of the season unassisted as she deflected Heidelberg goaltender Molly Schriber's clearing pass at the 27:12 mark.

In the second half, B-W extended its lead to 2-0 when junior defender Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/ New Albany) buried a shot from 18-yards out in the lower 90 off an assist from freshman midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Lodi Cloverleaf) at 50:01.   The Yellow Jackets pulled away when Gokey found the back of the net when she nailed a shot from 20-yards out over the goalkeeper's head at 73:02 for a 3-0 advantage.  B-W sealed the game and scored its final goal when sophomore forward Angie Wigton (Worthington/ Worthington Christian) scored off the cross from senior midfielder Liz Rice (Wooster/ Triway) at the 87:09 mark.

The Yellow Jackets outshot  Heidelberg 20-8, and outcornered them, 3-2.

In net, B-W senior Caitlin Sutter (Toledo/ Sylvania Southview) played all 90 minutes, made five saves and recorded her first career shutout.

The Yellow Jackets will next play on Saturday, October 16 in a men's and women's doubleheader against visiting Ohio Northern University at the George Finnie Stadium. The women match is slated to start at 4:309 with the men's match to follow at 7:00 p.m.  The match is also "Kick It Pink" Night as fans are reminded to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and research.
