Women's Soccer Team Set Season-High for Goals and Defeats Muskingum, 5-0, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team set a season-high for goals as it shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 5-0, today (Saturday, October 30, 2010) in the first game of a men's and women's Seniors' and Parents' Day doubleheader in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  The men's game is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.

With its win, B-W improved to 7-9-4 overall and 2-4-3 in the OAC and earned the sixth seed in next week's OAC Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets will travel to Columbus to play Capital University on Monday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.  With its loss, Muskingum fell to 2-17 overall and 1-8 in the OAC and ends its season.

In the first half, senior forward Liz Rice (Wooster/ Triway) netted the first goal for the Yellow Jackets and her first this season at the 5:49 mark off of an assist from senior forward Vickie Dreiling  (Boardman/ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney).  B-W doubled the lead to 2-0 when sophomore forward Angie Wigton (Worthington/ Worthington Chrstian) scored off of a through ball from junior midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/New Albany).  The goal was Wigton's fifth of the season.

In the second stanza, B-W continued to extend the lead to 3-0 when freshman midfielder Bucky Gammiere (Mentor/Lake Catholic) netted an unassisted goal, her team-leading eighth of the season,  at the 51:48. Wigton scored her second goal of the contest and sixth of the campaign at the 55:54 mark off of Cooper's second assist of the afternoon and team-high fifth of the season.  Freshman midfielder Kayla Losco (Aliquippa, Pa./ Hopewellended the scoring with an unassisted goal at 88:27. 

Overall, B-W outshot the Fighting Muskies, 31-1, and also outcornered Muskingum, 7-1.

In goal, senior Caitlin Sutter (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) did not face a shot in and junior Katie Finley (Vermilion) faced one and made one save.

The first round of the 2010 OAC Women's Soccer Tournament begins on Monday, November 1, the semifinals are on Wednesday, Nov. 3 and the Championship Match is on Saturday, November 6.  All games are played at the site of the highest seeded team.  Game times currently are to be announced To learn all of the pairings, sites and game times in the first round, please visit the OAC Web site on Sunday, Oct. 31 at www.oac.org.

Today's doubleheader between B-W and OAC rival Muskingum University was taped and will be shown on a delay basis by regional cable network SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com). The women's game will be shown on October 30 at 9:00 p.m. and again on Monday, November 1 at 5:00 a.m.  The men's game will be aired on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
